About

Maria Brunel is the creative expression of my love of fashion, textiles, and cultural traditions.

As a child, I was enchanted by my European grandmother’s closet with it’s luxurious wraps, elegant fabrics, and best of all, her fantastical array of costumes. That, along with the breathtaking handiwork of the traditional garments worn in my hometown of San Miguel de Allende and throughout Mexico, influence the designs for Maria Brunel. The stories of our culture are woven and embroidered into each and every creation.

My appreciation for textiles has taken me around the world, but I keep returning to the incredible artistry of my Mexican roots.  In Mexico, I travel to the small craft villages where the weaving and embroidery traditions have been handed down for generations. There I work with the artisans to adapt their intricate handloom and embroidery designs to a more contemporary look.  We use local materials and European linens to enhance their traditional beauty.

Maria Brunel supports the preservation of our Mexican textile traditions and is excited to partner with these remarkable artists.
